Dipterocarps emerging on the canopy in Danum Valley Conservation Area

These species of trees, easily recognizable by their smooth trunk free of vines, are predominant in the malaysian region, where they regularly exceed the height of 50 metres in mature forests. The highest tropical tree, an 88 metres dipterocarp, has recently been recorded from the Tawau hills in southern Sabah.
