Kanha is the place narrated by Rudyard Kipling in The Jungle Book. Today is one of the finest national parks of India and a key area for the conservation of the tiger (about 100 individuals in 1994) and other endangered species such as the Deccan swamp deer or barasingha (Cervus duvauceli branderi).
