Like all Madagascar, the island of Nosy Be has been extensively deforested in consequence of a slash and burn agriculture. Today most of the original vegetation has been replaced by secondary forests, with plenty of introduced species (Kapok, Jack fruit). Mangroves are plentiful along the coastline.
